for Suicide Prevention

Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program® |
1. Promote Awareness |
1. Nation-wide distribution of literature, YR cards and training materials. YR uses mediums that appeal to the mainstream public: |
2. Develop collaborative efforts |
2. YR collaborations
exist world-wide: All 50 states, provinces of Canada and 47 countries organizations, rather it collaborates and partners with them and assist in a suicidal crisis using YR's Be-A-Linktm protocol. |
3. Reduce stigma of
mental health & suicide prevention services |
3. Clearly our message is that
suicide is not about failing, simply being human and that "It is "Ok to Ask 4 Help!"® |
4. Develop and implement suicide prevention program |
4. Have developed a
comprehensive community-based program. |
5. Reduce access to
lethal means |
5. YR curriculum and program
teaches that reducing access to lethal means is vital. |
| 6. Implement training programs |
6. Developed curriculum
for schools, colleges and universities. |
7. Infuse curriculum
into professional education |
7. Partnering with American
Osteopathic Association to develop and implement curriculum into all Osteopathic training institutions, colleges, universities, hospitals and primary care offices. |
8. Promote &
improve access and community links/mental health and substance abuse services |
8. Works with communities and
community members to help the community to improve access to help. Example: Colorado LINK program partnered with Mental Health Association of Colorado |
9. Improve reporting in
the media and entertainment |
9. Using the Anneberg report as
well as AAS guidelines with all media to promote responsible reporting. YR works directly with media to help them find ways for them to be gatekeepers through their reporting. |
10. Promote and support research on suicide and suicide prevention |
10. Yellow Ribbon works with
academic institutions and other professional organizations to promote and support such research to show the current true profile of suicide and suicide prevention in the United States |
11. Expand surveillance
systems (track trends and identify new problems) |
11. The YR international database
(in Colorado) holds over 46,000 entries containing suicide profiles. YR feels it is very important to be involved with the collection of data that will track trends, identify new problems, thus our databases (int'l office as well as chapter/program sites) are offered to assist in that surveillance project, while protecting confidentiality. |
