You may have noticed a lot of posts across the YR Social Media with the question “What are they worth to you?” & the hashtag #YiYR. We’re excited to tell you all about the 2017 Campaign.
First – what is the meaning behind #YiYR? It’s short for “Why I Yellow Ribbon”. A simple question – but one we hope many will take time to answer.
Next – What do we want you to do with it? We want you to share your story. This by in large is a social media campaign – we’re dreaming of things like viral and ‘as big as the ice bucket challenge.’
First pick the method you’ll share your story; short video (take it on your phone and upload), a picture (use or make your own #YiYR sign to write your answer and hold up for your pic), submit on our website, or simply type something out on social media and share.
Now, pick which question you’ll answer:
- “Why do I Yellow Ribbon?” – what is it that has/keeps you involved in the Yellow Ribbon family? what is it that interests you in staying engaged in life?
- “What are they worth to me?” ‘They’, meaning a loved one, classmate, friend, etc. and ‘worth’, meaning, would you give up something (coffee, dinner out, the movies, etc…) on a regular basis to ensure YR & suicide prevention can continue to reach more people with a life-saving message of hope. For example: I’d give up coffee once a week to donate to YR.
- “What would I do?” to make sure those I care about would have access to YR training & Ask 4 Help!® Cards. For example: start a club, host a fundraiser, have a memory event, hand out YR cards, tell others about YR.
Last, go share it and challenge others to do the same. Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, SnapChat, YR Website. Wherever you share use the #YiYR so we can follow your story.
When you’re all done tell your friends to join in sharing our stories to bring awareness to Suicide Prevention & Yellow Ribbon’s efforts to share the message “It’s OK To Ask 4 Help!®”
Stay connected as this campaign rolls out and we see together where this will take us. We can’t wait to hear your stories!
